Ever since I figured out how to hold things, I have been driven to make art. Not good art, though. That didn’t cross my mind for a long time. No, I wanted to make stuff because, if I didn’t, I probably would have exploded, which is the way I approach every one of my projects.

Nothing else has ever been able to capture the tactile feeling of creating something: using paint and a brush to cover a canvas, carving something into a block or clay, or letting my mind run empty while wheel-throwing pottery…Those types of things aren’t possible to just replicate in any other medium, you have to make art to get them. Half of my experimentation with different mediums is just in pursuit of a a new process to fall in love with.

What motivates me to be so public about this love is the fact that so many people don’t know the wonder of these feelings. Whether out of fear of making something that looks bad, or impatience with a medium, or simply a lack of time or knowledge. What I try to spread, above all else, is that art is first and foremost about fun and connecting with yourself. If you have a dumb idea, there’s nothing stopping you from creating it except your own mind…You just need to be as brave as a one-year-old.
